Criminal History Reporting (CHR)

April 23, 2026

The CHR Compliance & Training Unit is part of the DPS Compliance and Training Bureau that was established in 1992 to help criminal justice agencies in reporting crime data accurately and timely. The unit provides training, guidance and assistance to law enforcement, prosecutors, courts and probation offices on how to submit criminal data to the Computerized Criminal History (CCH) database. In 1996, DPS also started to collect and store Juvenile Criminal History Data in the CCH database. The CHR Trainers work with every county in Texas and are ready to support criminal justice agencies with any questions or issues related to criminal history reporting.

The accurate and timely reporting of this information is imperative for the public safety of Texas.

Here you will find all the details, explanations and user manuals to report criminal and juvenile justice information to DPS for inclusion in the Computerized Criminal History (CCH). You will find the Adult Reporting Training manual and the Juvenile Reporting Training manual that give step-by-step instructions, including definitions, for how to fill out the CR-43, CR-44, CR-43J and CR-44J Criminal History Reporting Forms.

If you would like to receive training on these forms or the information that is required for reporting, please contact your Criminal History Reporting (CHR) Training Rep.  You can also contact the CHR Office by calling (512) 424-2478 or emailing: CHR.Training@dps.texas.gov.
