The Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) system is an initiative of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Federal Communications Commission (FCC), The Wireless Foundation (CTIA) and the wireless industry. WEA provides mobile consumers with notifications regarding Presidential, Imminent Threat and AMBER alerts. During an AMBER Alert involving the state's network, WEA capable devices will receive a text-like message if unique vehicle identifiers (license plate etc.) are available.
