We’ve put together a welcome packet for new owners joining the RERF program.

Facility & Technician Responsibilities

To remain a Recognized Emissions Repair Facility you must:

  1. Maintain at least one full time Recognized Emissions Repair Technician (RERT)
  2. Maintain required equipment
  3. Submit Emissions Related Repairs to the department, for vehicles that have failed an emissions inspection and that your facility performs repairs to.

To remain a Recognized Emissions Repair Technician you must:

  1. Maintain current certification in the following areas based on the following tests offered by the National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE)
  • Engine Repair (ASE Test Al)
  • Electrical/Electronic Systems (ASE Test A6)
  • Engine Performance (ASE Test A8)
  • Advanced Engine Performance Specialist (ASE Test Ll)

Report Emissions Repairs Online

Reporting emissions repairs is easy and convenient.  Technicians can now report their own repairs real-time.  Skip the hassles of keeping track of vehicle and repair information and report repairs as soon as your done with the work. 

  • Use a mobile device or computer to submit your repair.
  • Visit:  Vehicle Inspection Connection (VIC)
  • Login using your technician ID and password.
  • Click the “Report emissions repairs” link
  • Enter vehicle details and Submit

Repair Effectiveness Rating

Every Recognized Emissions Repair Facility is required to report repairs on vehicles that:

  • Failed the emissions portion of the inspection
  • Seeking repairs in order to pass the emissions portion of the inspection
  • Repairs performed as part of the AirCheckTexas Voucher Program

Your facility's Repair Effectiveness Rating tells potential motorists seeking a repair facility:

  • Percentage of vehicles that pass inspection after having been repaired at your facility;
  • Average repair , diagnostic and labor costs.
  • Type of vehicles your facility repairs;
  • Link to your website
