Impact Texas Drivers (ITD) Program

September 22, 2020

If you take a driving skills test, you are required to successfully complete one of the following Impact Texas Drivers (ITD) programs and provide proof of completion at the time of your driving skills test. You MUST bring your valid certificate of completion of this program to the DL office or third party skills test provider at the time you are administered your driving skills test.

The ITD Program was developed with the goal of saving lives through awareness and education. This program is meant to educate drivers in an effort to reduce the risk of being involved in automobile crashes, particularly those caused by distracted driving. Distracted driving is one of the primary causes of fatalities in the United States, and this program shows what can happen when drivers are distracted while driving.

Impact Texas Teen Drivers (ITTD)
The Impact Texas Teen Drivers program (ITTD) is a free, 2 hour informational video that shares the dangers of distracted driving along with real life stories of teens that have lost their lives. This course is for:

  1. Drivers 15-17 years of age who are required to complete an approved parent taught or minor driver education course, or
  2. Drivers 18-24 years of age who are required to complete an approved parent taught, minor or adult driver education course, and
  3. The ITTD program must be completed after the behind the wheel driver education requirements and prior to taking the driving skills test.

Obtain more information on taking the ITTD program.

Impact Texas Adult Drivers (ITAD)
The Impact Texas Adult Drivers program (ITAD) is a free, 1 hour informational video that provides educational information on the dangers of distracted driving. The video also shares real life stories of people and their families who were impacted as a result of distracted driving. This course is for:

  1. Drivers 18-24 years of age who are required to complete the adult driver education course, and ITAD must be completed after the behind the wheel driver education requirements and prior to taking the driving skills test, or
  2. Drivers 25 years of age or older, including those who may have completed a driver education course. Driver education is not required if you are 25 years of age or older; however, it is highly recommended.

Obtain more information on taking the ITAD program.

Completion Certificate
You have 90 days from the date you successfully complete the program to pass the driving skills exam. If you do not pass the driving skills test, you will be required to complete the program again.

Driver Education
The ITD programs do not replace the distracted driving module given in the 32 hours of Teen driver education classroom phase or the 6 hours of Adult driver education classroom phase. The ITD program was added to emphasize the ever increasing dangers of distracted driving.
