Voluntary Contributions and Programs Information

The following contribution opportunities* and program information are made available in all driver license offices. Donations may also be made online during driver license and identification card transactions.
 

Donate Life Texas

Donate Life Texas is the nonprofit organization dedicated to helping Texans safely and securely document their donation decisions, and is the only official organ, eye, and tissue donor registry in the state of Texas. Texans who are applying for or renewing their Texas driver license (DL), personal identification certificate (ID), or commercial driver license (CDL) have the option to register as an organ doner. Glenda Dawson Donate Life Texas Donor Registry

Donate Life Texas is solely funded by donations, including those made by Texans when applying for or renewing their Texas DL, ID, CDL, when registering their motor vehicle, or online at Donate Life Texas. The registry was named in honor of Texas state representative Glenda Dawson. Elected in 2002, Dawson served two terms as the 29th District Texas House Representative. A kidney transplant recipient herself, Dawson was a passionate advocate for organ donation. Blindness Education Screening and Treatment Program (BEST)

BEST provides free vision screenings and financial assistance to Texas residents for medically urgent eye treatment with a referral from your ophthalmologist. Texans who are applying for or renewing their DL or ID have the option to donate to BEST. Texas Veterans Assistance Fund

Texans who are applying for or renewing their DL or ID have the option to donate to the Texas Veterans Assistance Fund. The Texas Veterans Assistance Fund was established to support veterans in need through the collection of donations made when applying for or renewing a Texas driver license or personal identification certificate. This fund assists veterans with:

  • Therapy
  • Addressing acute and chronic needs that contribute to their homelessness
  • Making critical home repairs and improving home accessibility for the service-connected disabled
  • Rehabilitating justice-involved veterans through specialized, state-certified treatment courts offering resources and an accountable environment

Survivors of Sexual Assault

House Bill 1729 of the 85th Texas Legislature, Regular Session, established a program to provide for the voluntary contribution of funds by persons applying for an original or renewal of a DL, ID, or CDL. This donation provides support to survivors of sexual assault or other sex offenses through the testing of collected evidence. This program is administered by the Criminal Justice Division of the Office of the Governor through a grant program that distributes the funds to qualifying crime labs and agencies on an application basis.


Texas Bone Marrow Donation & Transplant

House Bill 780 of the 87th Texas Legislature, Regular Session, established the bone marrow donor recruitment program. This program was created to educate Texas residents about the need for bone marrow donors, the requirements for registering as a bone marrow donor, and the medical guidelines for participating. Identification Fee Exemption Fund

House Bill 123 of the 86th Texas Legislature, Regular Session, established the Identification Fee Exemption Fund. The identification fee exemption fund was created as an account in the general revenue fund consisting of grants and donations made to the department to assist in the payment of DL/ID fees for foster and homeless children and youths, and victims and children of family or dating violence.


*Contribution opportunities can only be made when conducting a driver license or identification card transaction and may not be available for all transactions.
