Summary of New Laws Impacting Vehicle Inspection
HB 3026 Effective September 1, 2021
Caption: Relating to the operation and regulation of certain automated motor vehicles.
- Exempts autonomous vehicles operated exclusively by an automated driving system from those motor vehicle equipment laws or regulations that relate to or support motor vehicle operation by a human driver and that are not relevant to an automated driving system.
SB 1064 Effective September 1, 2021
Caption: Relating to the extended registration of certain county fleet vehicles.
- Extends the registration from one year to three years for certain government fleet vehicles owned by a county with a population of 3.3 million or more.
- Provides that a motor vehicle, semitrailer, or trailer registered under the extended registration period is subject to the inspection requirements of Transportation Code, Chapter 548 (Compulsory Inspection of Vehicles) as if the vehicle, semitrailer, or trailer were registered without an extended registration period.
