The mission of the Victim & Employee Support Services (VESS) is to provide specialized resources for the prevention of, response to and resolution of crime-related, work-related and personal stress for victims of crime, department employees and their dependent family members.
DPS knows that the success of the agency cannot be separated from the wellbeing of its personnel and their families. Texas DPS Victim and Employee Support Services employs licensed behavioral health staff who are located at DPS headquarters and all DPS regions to provide free and confidential support to DPS employees and immediate family members within the same household. VESS counselors act as navigators by providing consultations and referral assistance to community resources for identified needs. When indicated, VESS counselors may also provide short-term, solution-focused professional counseling for specific problems, including: marital conflict, parenting concerns, drug and alcohol abuse, job-related stressors, and grief or loss.
VESS Office Hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. DPS employees and their dependent family members may contact a VESS licensed professional directly to schedule an appointment. You may contact the VESS mainline at 512-424-2211 and you will be referred appropriately
