  • AUSTIN – Using modern forensic testing, law enforcement has identified the man they believe is responsible for the brutal 1986 rape and murder of 16-year-old Deanna Ogg in Montgomery Co. After four decades of investigation, Bobby Charles Taylor Sr., now 60, was located and arrested in Mexico City, Mexico, on an unrelated felony charge and then extradited to Texas to face charges late last month.
  • AUSTIN – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is pleased to announce it has secured federal grant money awarded to the State of Texas by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The funds aim to strengthen public safety and aviation security efforts through new drone mitigation technology. DPS has been awarded approximately $3.2 million to acquire advanced technology designed to detect and mitigate unauthorized or potentially dangerous drone activity.
  • AUSTIN – Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitive Hassan Haitham Muhsen is this month’s Featured Fugitive. The reward for information leading to his arrest is increased to $6,000 during May if the tip is received this month. The U.S. Marshals Service is also offering an additional reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to Muhsen’s arrest.
  • AUSTIN – Yesterday, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) held a grand opening for its new Mounted Patrol Unit (MPU) Equine Facility in Coupland, Texas, and welcomed its newest riders during a graduation ceremony. The Coupland facility is critical to maintaining a high standard of training and operational readiness for the MPU. The unit is multi-functional, combining public safety operations with education and outreach, furthering DPS’ mission to protect and serve Texans.
  • AUSTIN – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) announces the capture of another Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitive, Herbert Souvenir, in San Antonio earlier this month. A Texas Crime Stoppers reward will be paid for his arrest.
  • AUSTIN – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) proudly hosted the 2026 Inspiring Women Leaders (IWL) Conference at the Hilton Palacio del Rio in San Antonio, from April 14–16, 2026. This conference brought together 440 women from the law enforcement community from 10 states and 20 agencies for three days of professional development, collaboration and empowerment.
  • AUSTIN – Today, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) proudly graduates eight new K-9 teams and two certified K-9 Tech Trainers, who are now set to deploy across Texas. These teams will serve as a critical resource in enhancing public safety, supporting narcotics and explosives detection, tracking operations and broader law enforcement efforts.
