Texas Officers Advance to National Commercial Vehicle Inspection Competition

CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) announces the winners of the 2019 Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Texas Challenge, which was held on July 9th in Corpus Christi.

Seventeen DPS Commercial Vehicle Enforcement (CVE) Troopers and two Commercial Motor Vehicle Inspectors represented the six different Regions throughout the state. In addition, four police officers and one sheriff’s deputy with the Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program (MCSAP) represented several different agencies within Texas.

The categories of competition included, Passenger Carrying Vehicle Inspection, Hazardous Materials Inspection, North American Standard Level I Inspection and CVSA OOSC Examination.
CMV Inspector Jose Najera, of El Paso, was named Grand Champion; and CVE Trooper Beau Martinez, of Midland, was named Runner-Up for DPS.

In the MCSAP Division, Corporal Michael Trautwein, of the Houston Police Department, was named Grand Champion; and Officer Jason Belz, of the Arlington Police Department, was named Runner-Up.

During the 2019 North American Inspectors Championship in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, August 13-17, Najera will represent the Texas Highway Patrol - Commercial Vehicle Enforcement and Trautwein will represent the Houston Police Department.
