AUSTIN – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) arrested a Tarrant County resident today on charges of burglary of a building and criminal mischief related to an incident at the State Capitol.
gAt approximately 3:27 a.m., a DPS Trooper observed a man approach the south steps of the Capitol and enter the temporary wooden walkway, which was constructed as the building undergoes renovations. Moments later, the Trooper observed the man climbing up the scaffolding on the south side of the Capitol. According to the preliminary investigation, the suspect broke a window and entered the Capitol on the second floor. He is also accused of intentionally damaging a portrait of former Governor Fletcher Stockdale.
A DPS Trooper, along with a Capitol Security Officer, responded and arrested Tanner Christian Graeber, 22, of Fort Worth, without incident. Graeber was then transported and booked into the Travis County Jail. Both charges are state jail felonies.
The DPS Region 7 (Capitol Complex region) Criminal Investigations Division is handling the investigation. No additional details are expected to be released at this time.
