HOUSTON – Beginning this Friday, Jan. 31, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) will begin upgrading the parking lot of the Houston Gessner Mega Center, located at 12220 South Gessner Houston, TX 77071. The goal of this upgrade is to better serve our customers by expanding the total number of parking spaces at the office while improving vehicle and pedestrian traffic flow. Construction is expected to be completed in May.
During the renovations, customers are encouraged to consider visiting alternate driver license (DL) office locations, as the parking lot construction will reduce the number of spaces available at this particular office. Customers can visit the nearby Houston North Mega Center, located at 8418 Veterans Memorial Drive Houston, TX 77088, or the Houston Southeast Mega Center, located at 10810 Galveston Road, Houston, TX 77034. A full listing of all DL office locations is also available online.
DPS also wants to remind customers that many Texans are eligible to skip the trip to the office by conducting their transactions online, by phone or by mail. Customers can visit www.Texas.gov or call 1-866-357-3639 to check their eligibility. The requirements for phone and online renewal are the same, and the fee is the same for online, in-person and telephone renewals. Customers may also renew their DL or ID card up to two years before their expiration date.
