DPS Urges Texans to Prepare for Arctic Weather

Freddie Alaniz

AUSTIN – The reward for Freddie Alaniz, 34, a Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitive and this month’s featured fugitive, has been increased to $12,500 for information leading to his capture if the tip comes in during the month of January. Alaniz is wanted for murder, sexual assault of a child and possession of marijuana. All tips are guaranteed to be anonymous.

In February 2006, Alaniz was arrested for aggravated assault in San Antonio for allegedly stabbing a man during a fight, but Alaniz was able to make bail and subsequently fled. The victim later died as a result of his injuries, and the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office issued an arrest warrant for Alaniz on the charge of murder in August 2006. Alaniz’s arrest warrant for sexual assault of a child stems from a 2006 incident in Zavala County.

Alaniz has ties to several Texas towns, including La Pryor (Zavala County), George West (Live Oak County) and Beaumont, as well as Veracruz, Mexico. His criminal history includes assault causing bodily injury, resisting arrest and driving while intoxicated. For more information and updates in the event of his arrest, see his wanted bulletin.

Alaniz is 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighs approximately 120 pounds; however, his appearance may have changed significantly (above photo is from 2006). He has tattoos on his left hand, legs, right arm and shoulder.

One offender from the Texas 10 Most Wanted Program is featured each month in hopes the higher reward money from the Governor’s Criminal Justice Division will generate additional tips. The higher reward amount will only be paid if the tip comes in the same month the fugitive is featured.

To be eligible for the cash rewards, there are four different ways to provide anonymous tips:

  • Call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-252-TIPS (8477).
  • Submit a web tip through the DPS website by selecting the fugitive you have information about, and then clicking on the link under their picture.
  • Submit a Facebook tip by clicking the “SUBMIT A TIP” link (under the “About” section).
  • Submit a tip through the DPS Mobile App. The app is currently available for iPhone users on the Apple App Store and for Android users on Google Play.

All tips are anonymous – regardless of how they are submitted.

The following link, How a Tipster Gets PAID, explains the steps on how to submit a tip regarding a Texas 10 Most Wanted fugitive or sex offender and/or how to receive a reward once the fugitive is captured.

Texas Crime Stoppers, which is funded by the Governor’s Criminal Justice Division, offers cash rewards to any person who provides information that leads to the arrest of one of the Texas 10 Most Wanted fugitives or sex offenders.

Do not attempt to apprehend these fugitives; they are considered armed and dangerous.
