DPS Trooper Discovers Marijuana during Traffic Stop

AMARILLO – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) seized over 99 pounds of marijuana Saturday, February 23, after a Texas Highway Patrol Trooper stopped a vehicle in Potter County.

At approximately 9:58 a.m., a DPS Trooper stopped a 2007 Chevrolet pickup traveling east on I-40 near Amarillo, for a traffic violation. The Trooper then discovered multiple vacuum-sealed packages of marijuana in the truck bed.

The driver – Roberto Gonzalez-Pena, 39, of Tulare, California – was arrested and charged with felony possession of marijuana. Gonzalez-Pena was transported and booked into the Potter County Jail.

The drugs allegedly were being transported from Tulare, California to New Jersey.
