DPS Traffic Stop Trooper Leads to Seizure of Drugs

ROSENBERG – A Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Trooper seized almost 200 pounds of cocaine and heroin during an October 19 traffic stop on I-69 near Rosenberg.

At approximately 11:20 a.m., the DPS Trooper stopped a northbound 2011 Chrysler passenger van for a traffic violation. During the stop, a DPS canine alerted to the presence of drugs in the van leading to the discovery of over 165 pounds of cocaine and 33 pounds of heroin.

The driver was identified as Alexandra Briones, 32, and the passenger was identified as Alejandrina Briones, 76, both were from Pharr, Texas. They were arrested and transported to the Fort Bend County Jail for delivery of a control substance, a first degree felony.

DPS Special Agents with the Criminal Investigations Division responded to the scene. This investigation remains ongoing and further details are not available for release at this time.
