DPS Traffic Stop Leads to Seizure of More Than $26,000 (DPS-South Texas Region)

LAREDO – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) seized more than $26,000 in cash during a traffic stop on Tuesday, August 4, in Webb County.

At approximately 12:42 pm, a DPS Trooper stopped a gray Chevrolet pickup traveling south on Interstate Highway 35 near mile marker 20, for a traffic violation. During the traffic stop, the Trooper subsequently discovered U.S. currency, totaling $26,390, in the passenger’s waistband and inside the center console of the vehicle.

The passenger, Roy Ramirez 26, a resident from Laredo, was arrested and charged with money laundering a state jail felony. Ramirez was booked into the Webb County Jail. DPS Criminal Investigation Division is further investigating this case.
