WESLACO – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) seized $147,490 in cash when a Texas Highway Patrol Trooper assigned to Operation Lone Star stopped a vehicle in Hidalgo County.
On June 11, 2021, just after 7 p.m., a DPS Trooper stopped a gray Toyota passenger car on IH-69C in Edinburg for a traffic violation. A DPS K-9 Unit arrived on scene and alerted on the vehicle. The Trooper then discovered a brown cardboard box and brown paper bag containing large sums of cash wrapped with rubber bands. The money originated from Houston and was headed for McAllen.
The driver, 29-year-old Yeliena Pedroso, was arrested, charged with money laundering and taken to the Hidalgo County Jail.
