DPS Traffic Stop Leads to Methamphetamine Seizure

WESLACO – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) seized 2 kilos of methamphetamine on Friday, June 29, after a Texas Highway Patrol Trooper stopped a vehicle in Hidalgo County.

At approximately 6:34 p.m., a DPS Trooper stopped a 2009 Pontiac G5 traveling northbound on U.S. 281 for a traffic violation. Troopers subsequently discovered four bundles of methamphetamine, worth more than $380,000, wrapped around the suspect’s waistline.

The passenger — Erick Israel Hidalgo, 23, of McAllen — was arrested and charged with possession of controlled substance (first degree felony). The suspect was transported and booked into the Hidalgo County Jail.
