DPS Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Seizure

AMARILLO – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) seized 208 pounds of THC products Saturday, April 6, after a Texas Highway Patrol Trooper stopped a vehicle in Wheeler County.

At approximately 10:40 a.m., a DPS Trooper stopped a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu traveling east on I-40 near Shamrock, for a traffic violation. A Wheeler County Sheriff’s Office Canine arrived on scene and alerted on the vehicle. The Trooper then discovered multiple boxes of THC products in the trunk.

The driver – Mitchell Wright, of Cypress, Texas – and passenger – Nicholas Ansley, of San Diego, California – were arrested and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance. Wright, 25, and Ansley, 29, were transported and booked into the Wheeler County Jail. 

The drugs allegedly were being transported from San Diego, California to Duluth, Georgia.
