AMARILLO – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) seized more than $289,000 in cash Tuesday, January 15, after a Texas Highway Patrol Trooper stopped a vehicle in Oldham County.
At approximately 5:55 p.m., a DPS Trooper stopped a 2005 Lexus GS300 traveling west on I-40 near Vega, for a traffic violation. The Trooper then discovered four black tape-wrapped bundles of cash in an after-market compartment underneath the front seat bottoms.
DPS Special Agents were contacted and assisted with the investigation.
The driver – Alvaro Ramirez, 32, of Newark, Delaware – was arrested and charged with money laundering. Ramirez was transported and booked into the Oldham County jail.
The cash was allegedly being transported from Newark, Delaware to Tucson, Arizona.
