DPS Traffic Stop Leads to Cash Seizure in Maverick County (DPS South Texas Region)

DEL RIO The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) during Operation Lone Star seized over $70,000 in cash after a Texas Highway Patrol Trooper stopped a vehicle in Maverick County.

On July 5, 2021, around 6:25 p.m., a DPS Trooper stopped a gray Nissan passenger car traveling south on U.S. 57 near mile marker 396 for a traffic violation. During the traffic stop, the Trooper discovered plastic-wrapped bundles containing U.S. currency in a hidden compartment in the front center console.

The driver, 22-year-old Luis Fernando Rodriguez of San Antonio, and passenger, 18-year-old Marc Anthony Rodriguez of San Antonio, were both arrested, charged with money laundering and taken to the Maverick County Jail.
