WESLACO – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is urging the public to be cautious of fundraising scams allegedly being used to support Texas Troopers. Scammers often attempt to exploit the generosity of the public following the injury of a law enforcement officer. On Saturday evening, while investigating a motor vehicle crash in Edinburg, Trooper Moises Sanchez was shot. He remains in critical but stable condition at this time. The suspect in the shooting was arrested and booked into the Hidalgo County Jail on multiple charges.
DPS is reminding those wishing to give monetary assistance to Trooper Sanchez’s family, that at this time, there are only two confirmed ways to do so:
- Texas Regional Bank at 1371855 (see locations at www.texasregionalbank.com)
Please deposit cash, check or money order to the account that has been established for the Sanchez Family. Check or money orders should be made payable to “FBO Moises Sanchez.” - Sanchez family’s PayPal account
