Trace Evidence Section

Forensic scientists working in the Trace Evidence Section use specialized techniques when analyzing evidence in cases of homicide, sexual assault, hit-and-run, etc. They examine evidence including hair, fibers, paint, glass, gunshot residue, shoe prints, tire impressions, etc., with the goal of determining if evidence at a crime scene could be connected to a suspect and/or victim. New instrumentation includes scanning electron microscopy, along with other spectrophotometric techniques.
