I was driving to work and about 30 minutes out, it began to rain heavily and at some point something got stuck underneath my car and I veered off the road. While waiting for some friends to help me, Officer Zaragoza came and asked if I was alright. He tried to check out the belly of my car a few times to see the stick I’d run over, in the pouring rain and offered different suggestions as to how I could safely get off of the shoulder. A few things that stuck out to me the most in this interaction was his nonchalant attitude concerning the rainfall that seemed to drench him, his reassurance that if anything felt off with my car while he followed me off the highway. When listing off a suggestion he said “If you’re not comfortable moving your car that’s fine, too. I don’t want you to do anything you’re not comfortable with.” Hearing that as a young black female in this political climate was extremely comforting, and I’m so thankful all the help he offered in that nerve-wracking situation. Thank you Officer Zaragoza! Your service is greatly appreciated!
