Vernie HUNT, a Texas 10 Most Wanted Sex Offender, was arrested by DPS Special Agents and Texas Highway Patrol on February 18, 2022, following a traffic stop in Alice, Texas. In 2000, HUNT was convicted of Burglary of a Building and sentenced to two years' confinement in a TDCJ prison. In 2001, he was convicted of Indecency with a Child by Contact after an incident involving an 11-year-old boy. He subsequently was sentenced to four years' confinement. In 2009, he was convicted of Failure to Comply with Sex Offender Registration Requirements and was sentenced to an additional three years' confinement. He was discharged from TDCJ in December 2011. HUNT had been wanted since May 10, 2021, after the Jim Wells County Sheriff’s Office issued a warrant for his arrest for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender. The arrest was not the result of tip information received through Texas Crime Stoppers, so no reward will be paid.
