After you fill out the online application on the website, the system will let you know if you are eligible to complete your transaction virtually. If you are eligible, you’ll be prompted to download the application on your mobile phone or tablet. Your device must be equipped with internet access, a camera, and audio capabilities. Please note that desktop computers are currently not supported. You can then complete your transaction with a License and Permit Specialist (LPS) right from your mobile device or tablet.
Virtual Issuance is available to eligible customers, who do not require additional document submission for select driver license, identification card, and commercial driver license transactions. Eligibility is based on the customer's record status and information currently on file with the Texas Department of Public Safety.

In the application, you can schedule an appointment time most convenient for you or stay in the queue to connect virtually with the next available LPS to assist you with your transaction.
Transaction times may vary depending on the transaction type; however, Virtual Issuance is designed to provide an efficient and convenient experience.
If technical issues occur, the application will provide next-step guidance, or a representative will work with you to reconnect.
If you miss your appointment, no worries, you’ll just need to reschedule. You’ll get guidance during the scheduling process to help you set up a new time. Keep in mind that you have a 15- minute grace period after your appointment time before it’s automatically canceled.
If identity verification cannot be completed, you will be required to visit a driver license office to complete the transaction.
Upon completing the transaction, you will receive a temporary permit immediately. The physical credential will be delivered by mail within two to three weeks.
No. If you are under the age of 18, you must visit a driver’s license office to complete your transaction.
If you are 79 years or older, you are required to renew your driver license in person at your local driver license office.
Currently, the application allows CDL replacement transactions for U.S. citizens. CDL renewals are not yet available virtually.
Yes. If you have already submitted the necessary verification documentation for the veteran designation on the card, you are eligible for Virtual Issuance if no changes are being made to the veteran information.
No. You may complete duplicate transactions as many times as you wish.
Yes. The audit number is not required to complete your transaction virtually.
