Carl James HEGERT, a Texas 10 Most Wanted Sex Offender, was captured on February 18, 2026, in Houston, Texas. Working off investigative information, DPS Special Agents, DPS Troopers assigned to the Texas Anti-Gang (TAG) – Violent Crimes Unit in Houston, along with members of the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Fugitive Task Force, located and arrested HEGERT at an apartment complex.Since 2006, HEGERT has been convicted of a number of crimes, including, Theft of Firearm, Sexual Assault of a Child, Assault Causes Bodily Injury to a Family Member, Failure to Register as a Sex Offender, and Manufacture/Deliver a Controlled Substance. He was discharged from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) in January 2025.HEGERT had been wanted since October 2025, when a warrant out of Waller County was issued for his arrest for Larceny. Additionally, he was wanted out of San Jacinto County for Failure to Comply with Sex Offender Registration Requirements.HEGERT’s arrest was not from tip information received through Texas Crime Stoppers, so no reward will be paid.
