DETAILS:

On February 15, 2002, Subir Chatterjee, 42, was shot and killed at the Coastal gas station and convenience store that he co-owned and operated in the city of Oak Ridge North. A large sum of money was stolen during the robbery/murder. DNA evidence was recovered at the scene. An intensive investigation by Texas Rangers and the ORN PD ensued. Despite all efforts, the case remained unsolved. Recent advancements in DNA technology helped to identify a pool of possible suspects. Further investigation and laboratory analysis confirmed the identity of the suspect.

On December 10, 2019, Martin Tellez, now 42, was arrested and charged with Capital Murder. A trial date is pending.

Persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law.
