In the morning hours of January 8th, 1973, the deceased body of Candyce Fletcher-Mora was discovered in her apartment located at 411 Lozano in Harlingen, Texas, in the North Star Village Apartments. The autopsy revealed that Candyce was stabbed numerous times. Candyce was the mother to a 2 year old daughter. Candyce's daughter was located unharmed inside the apartment where Candyce was murdered.

In 2016, the Texas Rangers, Harlingen PD, and the District Attorney's Office began a thorough reinvestigation of this case. As a result of this investigation, strong evidence was uncovered that led investigators to Louis Brewster, a person known to the victim. Brewster died of natural causes before he could be indicted or arrested. In October 2020, this investigation was formally cleared and closed.
