Texas Rangers Cold Case Investigation Details

SUSPECTS: Andy Castillo
On Tuesday, 07-15-2003, the body of 21 year old Cynthia Palacio was discovered on a rural caliche road in southeast Lubbock County, Texas. Cynthia had been strangled. Cynthia, a resident of Lubbock, Texas was survived by her 2 year old daughter. Cynthia Palacio's murder has been linked to the 04-19-2004 murder of Linda Carbajal.
After a lengthy investigation by the Texas Rangers and the Lubbock County Sheriff's Office, Andy Castillo, 57, of Lubbock was charged with murder in this case. An alert in CODIS, the state's DNA system, alerted the investigators to Castillo. On 09/03/2020, Castillo was arrested. He was currently in custody on unrelated charges.
On August 27, 2021, Castillo died at a Lubbock hospital. Castillo still in custody, was awaiting trial for the two murders upon his death.
