DETAILS:

Yuhuai Yan was a 26-year-old, hard-working student. Yan came to America from China in 1997 and attended the University of Texas-San Antonio. On February 2, 2000, Yan’s body was found in a brushy area near Interstate 10 in rural Gillespie County, several miles past Kerrville. He had been shot to death. Texas Rangers investigated this case with the Gillespie County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO). A suspect emerged; however, the case ultimately stalled. In 2017, the Texas Rangers and GCSO reinvestigated this case. In December 2019, the suspect was indicted for the murder of Yuhuai Yan. On December 3, 2019, Rangers and GCSO arrested the suspect in Wilson County.

Update: On September 26, 2024, charges were dismissed against the defendant, although there was probable cause, the investigation remains open.


All persons are presumed innocent until conviction.
