In the early morning of May 28, 2018, the Dallas Fire Department (DFD) responded to a house fire on Berridge Lane in the Buckner Terrace area of East Dallas. After DFD extinguished the fire, the resident's body, Eric Moore, was located. An autopsy revealed that Moore, 47, was murdered inside his home before the fire. Moore's car, a 2011 Chevrolet Impala, had been stolen. Ultimately, the investigation stalled. In November 2018, the Texas Rangers assisted with this investigation.

On August 29, 2022, the Capital Murder trial of Demetrius Dewayne Thompson was held in the 194th Judicial District Court in Dallas. Thompson pled not guilty. On August 31, Thompson was found guilty of the Capital Murder of Eric Moore. District Judge Ernest White sentenced Thompson to a term of Life of confinement in prison.
