In 2015, the Texas Ranger Unsolved Crimes (Cold Case) Investigation Program initiated an investigation into this case. A Texas Ranger, specializing in cold cases, joined the investigation with White Settlement PD. In August 2016, as suspect was arrested for this offense and subsequently indicted.
In January of 2024, the charges against the suspect were dismissed by the prosecutor's office.
