DETAILS:

In the early morning of May 28, 2018, the Dallas Fire Department (DFD) responded to a house fire on Berridge Lane in the Buckner Terrace area of East Dallas. After DFD extinguished the fire, the resident's body, Eric Moore, was located. An autopsy revealed that Moore, 47, was murdered inside his home before the fire. Moore's car, a 2011 Chevrolet Impala, had been stolen. Ultimately, the investigation stalled. In November 2018, the Texas Rangers assisted with this investigation.

A Texas Ranger worked closely with a Dallas Police Department detective, and a suspect was eventually developed. On April 24, 2019, Demetrius Dewayne Thompson, 34, was arrested in Louisiana and charged with the murder of Eric Moore.

On August 29, 2022, the Capital Murder trial of Demetrius Dewayne Thompson was held in the 194th Judicial District Court in Dallas. Thompson pled not guilty. On August 31, Thompson was found guilty of the Capital Murder of Eric Moore. District Judge Ernest White sentenced Thompson to a term of Life of confinement in prison.
