Troopers that complete the 6 month FTO Program and have 4 years of full-time verified prior law enforcement service will advance to an early combined Trooper II salary of $89,264 ($7,438.64 monthly). Troopers that have less than 4 years of full-time verified prior law enforcement service will advance to the combined Trooper I salary of $73,208 ($6,100.65 monthly) until they reach 4 years of combined law enforcement experience at which time they will advance to the Trooper II salary.
Prior law enforcement service is not applicable to promotions, transfers, determining seniority or other matters in which years of service within DPS are relevant. ALL new Troopers hired under this provision are subject to the one-year probationary period from the date of graduation from the recruit training program.
Career progression has been established for these positions which will enable
the employee to promote to the higher levels of Probationary Trooper and
Trooper I - VI upon successful completion of qualifying work experience.
Job shift and hours vary (day/evening/night), can be 40 hours or more per week.
Out of State
Officers with Federal or Out of state law enforcement experience are NOT eligible for the early career progression of Trooper II as stated above.
