Fitness Requirements for Trooper Trainees and Recruits

All trooper trainee applicants are required to pass the Department's standard physical readiness test in order to continue in the application process.

The minimum physical fitness requirement for all applicants and new recruits is passing the standard physical readiness test at the 70 percentile. The standard physical readiness test consists of three events: abdominal crunches with a 2 minute time limit, push-ups no time limit, and a timed 1 ½ mile run. Scoring on all three events is based on your age and gender.

The application process is very competitive and only the top qualified applicants will be accepted to the Department's recruit school. The applicant's physical fitness score plays an important role in their overall ranking. Applicants scoring at the minimum 70 percentile on their standard physical readiness test are less likely to have a high enough overall ranking score to continue in the application process.

All new recruits accepted to attend a recruit school must pass the entrance standard physical readiness test at the minimum 70 percentile on the first day of recruit school. New recruits not passing the entrance standard physical readiness test at the minimum requirement will have their conditional job offer rescinded and will be sent home. Candidates sent home due to not passing the entrance physical readiness test or who resign from a recruit school will be required to reapply and complete the application process again if the applicant wishes to attend a future recruit school.
