Fingerprinting Instructions

Under State law, DPS must conduct a fingerprint based state and FBI Criminal History background check as part of the application process for Private Security applicants.

Fingerprint Submission
All Original Private Security applicants are required to submit fingerprints to DPS as part of the complete application. Applicants must submit fingerprints electronically, regardless of whether the applicant submits a paper application or an online application.

Steps for submitting electronic fingerprints:

  1. Submit: Online application for registration OR complete paper application forms from the DPS website.
  2. Login to
  3. Enter: Service Code for Private Security 11G65Y
  4. Select: Schedule Appointment
  5. Enter: PSB License Type and Number
  6. Enter: Yes / No If you applied online
  7. Enter: Trace or CCR # as prompted
  8. Enter: The remaining information as prompted

Note: Applicants who choose to submit a paper application must wait to schedule their appointment after the application has been processed through the mail and they are able to obtain the seven-digit CCR number at the top right corner of the cancelled check / money order.

Bulk Payments
If the bulk payment option is utilized, payment must be submitted before scheduling the fingerprint appointment. The one trace number provided with the bulk payment should be used to schedule a fingerprint appointment for each applicant associated with the bulk payment.
