AUSTIN – Reginald “Reggie” Vernard Campbell, 24, a Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitive, is now in custody after being captured Friday morning in Mt. Vernon, New York. Campbell was wanted for capital murder and unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. The arrest was the result of a tip, and a reward of up to $5,000 will be paid.
Working off tip information, members of the U.S. Marshals Joint East Texas Fugitive Task Force, including Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Special Agents, coordinated with the U.S. Marshals New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force, to locate and apprehend Campbell. The Sherman Police Department, Texas Rangers and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives also assisted in the investigation.
Campbell was wanted in connection with a robbery at the Quality Suites hotel in Sherman that resulted in the front desk clerk being fatally shot on Aug. 11, 2017. An investigation led authorities to arrest two female accomplices and identify Campbell as the masked suspect in the robbery and murder. For more information, see his captured bulletin.
So far in 2017, DPS and other agencies have arrested 22 Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitives and Sex Offenders, including 10 sex offenders and 12 gang members, and $56,000 in rewards have been paid for tips that resulted in arrests.
To be eligible for the cash rewards, tipsters MUST provide information to authorities using one of the three following methods:
All tips are anonymous – regardless of how they are submitted – and tipsters will be provided a tip number instead of using a name.
DPS investigators work with local law enforcement agencies to select fugitives for the Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitive and Sex Offender lists. You can find the current lists – with photos – on the DPS website.
Do not attempt to apprehend these fugitives; they are considered armed and dangerous.
