AUSTIN – Charles Simpson, 48, a Texas 10 Most Wanted Sex Offender, is now in custody after being captured on Thursday in Houston. Simpson was wanted for parole violation and failure to comply as a sex offender. The arrest was the result of a tip, and a reward up to $3,000 will be paid.
Working off tip information, Department of Public Safety Special Agents located and arrested Simpson without incident in an area north of downtown Houston.
In 1990, Simpson was convicted in Harris County of sexual assault; and in 1993, he was convicted of delivery of a controlled substance. Simpson received parole in 2006 and had been wanted since January 2016. For more information, see his captured bulletin at www.dps.texas.gov/Texas10MostWanted/SexOffenderDetails.aspx?id=335.
So far in 2016, DPS and other agencies have arrested 19 Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitives and Sex Offenders – including 12 sex offenders and eight gang members – and $42,500 in rewards have been paid for tips that resulted in arrests.
To be eligible for the cash rewards, tipsters must provide information to authorities using one of the five following methods:
All tips are anonymous – regardless of how they are submitted, and tipsters will be provided a tip number instead of using a name.
DPS investigators work with local law enforcement agencies to select fugitives for the Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitive and Sex Offender lists. You can find the current lists – with photos – on the DPS website at http://www.dps.texas.gov/texas10mostwanted/.
Do not attempt to apprehend these fugitives; they are considered armed and dangerous.
