Message From The Chief
Spring is Here
Spring has finally arrived! (Yes, I know it's felt like spring for a while now in Texas.) With spring has already come a slew of severe weather incidents. Communities across Texas have seen wildfire, tornados, straight-line winds and more. Sadly, several of these Texas weather incidents have resulted in the loss of life including three storm chasers.
I understand, for some, storm chasing is a passion and for others it is a livelihood. Trained storm chasers provide valuable data to broadcast media partners, emergency managers, National Weather Service partners and the public in general. I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone to please use caution on our Texas roadways, especially during severe weather.
National Volunteer Week
National Volunteer Week is April 23-29. I would like to take this opportunity to say "thank you!" to our partner volunteer organizations in Texas and across the country that selflessly give of themselves to help others. Please take a minute in April to thank all the volunteers in your organization and in your life that help make Texas great.
National Volunteer Week is also a great opportunity for you to get involved! Take the time to volunteer this month and make your community a better place to live.
National Richter Scale Day
How could we forget to celebrate National Richter Scale Day? Celebrated annually on April 26, National Richter Scale Day celebrates the birthday of Charles F. Richter, seismologist, physicist, and infamous inventor of the Richter Scale. So, who is hosting the hippest Richter Scale Day party and can I get an invite?! Happy birthday Charles Richter and happy Richter Scale Day to the emergency management community!
2017 Texas Emergency Management Conference & TEMAC Meetings
Texas Emergency Management Advisory Council (TEMAC) meetings were held in March in conjunction with the Emergency Management Association of Texas (EMAT) Symposium in San Marcos. Upcoming TEMAC meetings are scheduled during the TEMC and are open to the emergency management community.
We're looking forward to seeing you all there in May!
