Texas Emergency Management Conference

I believe all careers can be enhanced with a strong emphasis on continuing education and professional development. This is especially true for emergency management professionals.

Few other professionals encounter the same challenges that we face every day, and few encounter the same degree of changes to their profession. From navigating mutual aid agreements among jurisdictions and neighboring states to sheltering initiatives and evacuation plans – change is the one constant we can count on.

That’s why the Texas Division of Emergency Management tries to bring you and your colleagues the best in workshops, speakers and training opportunities once a year, in one location every year. The 2011 Texas Emergency Management Conference will be held at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio April 26-29.

This conference will include representatives of law enforcement, Texas Military Forces, the U.S. Armed Forces, border security, port security, transportation and cyber security, as well as personnel from councils of government, EMS and firefighting, the private sector and voluntary organizations. Officials from higher education, public education, health and medical care, and public officials from the local, state and national governments will also participate. This year’s conference combines the Texas Homeland Security Conference and the Texas Hurricane Conference into one premier event.

Conference attendees will have an opportunity to attend workshops and training sessions on a variety of topics, welcome and mentor new members of the emergency management community, and visit face-to-face with the colleagues who will provide needed support when the crisis comes. This conference is one of the best tools we can provide you and one of the best career investments you can make.

Please join me in making this a successful event. I look forward to seeing you in San Antonio.
