Texas Data Exchange (TDEx)

Texas Data Exchange

The Texas Data Exchange (TDEx) is a system that compiles law enforcement incident records and other non-intelligence criminal justice information into a central state repository for sharing across jurisdictional lines. The information is available through the National Data Exchange (N-DEx) for law enforcement and criminal justice purposes. The greatest value of TDEx is realized in the wealth of information it brings to criminal investigations. Data pertaining to incidents, suspects, booking and incarceration records, and other criminal justice information is contributed by Texas agencies. Access to this data is provided by the Texas Department of Public Safety (TXDPS) to authorized users at no cost to the user agencies.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is working to reestablish the data flow of contributing agencies. The data from over 500 local law enforcement agencies is currently being received. Once the information is gathered from local databases, it is pushed to N-DEx where it is combined with data from other sources and optimized for searching by authorized users.

For additional information, technical assistance, training, or system access, please contact the Texas Data Exchange Bureau at the phone number or email address below.

National Data Exchange (N-DEx)

The TXDPS TDEx Program works closely with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) National Data Exchange Program Office. This partnership includes the promotion of Texas incident-based records and related criminal justice information to N-DEx for improved information sharing at the national level. The FBI CJIS Division N-DEx System provides law enforcement and criminal justice users, nationwide, with a powerful investigative tool to search, link, analyze, and share criminal justice information on a national basis, to a degree never before possible. Examples of this information include incident/case report and arrest data, booking and incarceration data, probation and parole data, and expanded DOJ data sources. N-DEx allows authorized users to detect relationships between people, places, things, and crime characteristics and to link information across jurisdictions. N-DEx was developed in collaboration with the law enforcement community and is accessible to authorized users within law enforcement and criminal justice communities.

TXDPS requires that every participating Texas agency execute an N-DEx User Agreement. Agencies wishing to gain access to the information in N-DEx must also complete the N-DEx Agency Administrator (AA) Assignment form, a form used to appoint one or more individuals to administer all of the agency's N-DEx users and act as TXDPS point of contact. A Privileged User Application and a Rules of Behavior form must also be completed by the assigned AA. To request the required forms or to verify if your agency has an assigned AA, please contact us. The User Agreement and Agency Administrator forms must be signed by the head of your agency (or their appointed designee authorized to contractually obligate your agency).
