Texas Uniform Crime Reporting

NIBRS Workshops

With the passage of HB11 in the 84th Legislative Session, the law enforcement community in Texas has been challenged to move from the old Summary Reporting System (SRS) of Uniform Crime Reporting to the much more detailed Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) by September 1, 2019.

The Department of Public Safety will be hosting a series of information/training sessions around the state to assist agencies in making the transition to meet this goal. The sessions will be presented in two parts:

Part I – A high level overview of the NIBRS, with specific discussion regarding the provisions in HB11, the benefits of reporting NIBRS, some of the challenges moving from SRS to NIBRS, general information on the goals of NIBRS, the impact NIBRS will have on the quality of statistics for your agency and the state, as well as time for Q&A. This session will take approximately 90 minutes to 2 hours. It is highly recommended that all law enforcement agencies send at least one representative to attend this portion of the presentation.

Part II – NIBRS training to include the classifications of crimes and the specific reportable data elements. This training will take the remainder of the day and is a must for agencies who have recently moved to (and are reporting) NIBRS, but it is also highly encouraged for those who are planning on becoming NIBRS soon or just have a general interest in the program.

Please make plans to join us for one of the sessions listed below.
