CAPTURE DETAILS:

Omar CRUZ, added to the Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitive list in December 2014, was taken into custody in the state of Tamaulipas in Mexico on March 15, 2016. The U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) met Mexican Law Enforcement authorities at the Gateway to the Americas Bridge in Laredo, Texas, where CRUZ was turned over to the custody of U.S. authorities.

In 2014, warrants were issued for CRUZ, pursuant to an investigation by the Amarillo Police Department, where it is alleged that CRUZ committed aggravated sexual assault of a child under 14 years old. CRUZ was also wanted for forgery of a financial instrument.

In 2015, members of the USMS in Amarillo initiated an investigation in an effort to locate and apprehend CRUZ. Through a joint investigation between the USMS offices and DPS, CRUZ was located in Mexico. The USMS in the Southern District of Texas took custody of CRUZ at the Laredo POE. He was booked into the Webb County Jail.

The arrest was the result of tip information received through Texas Crime Stoppers and a reward will be paid.
