Demus Lee WESTMORELAND, a Texas 10 Most Wanted Sex Offender, was captured on September 27, 2017, in Beaumont, Texas, by members of the U.S. Marshals Joint East Texas Fugitive Task Force. Texas DPS CID Special Agents and the Berea Police Department from Kentucky also assisted in the investigation. WESTMORELAND had been a fugitive since February 2017 after absconding from his last known address in Galveston, Texas. WESTMORELAND also has ties to Sugar Land (Fort Bend County) and the Lexington, Kentucky area.In 2008, WESTMORELAND was convicted of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child and Indecency with a Child by Exposure after an incident in Fort Bend County involving a 6-year-old girl. He subsequently was sentenced to 10 years of probation.In February and March 2017, two probation violation warrants for WESTMORELAND's arrest were issued by the 400th Judicial District Court in Fort Bend County. An additional warrant of Failure to Register as a Sex Offender was also issued by the Galveston Police Department.The arrest was the result of tip information received through Texas Crime Stoppers and a reward will be paid.
