Technical Services

RF/Technical Services

The RF/Technical Services manages and provides technical support for the 26 Statewide Communications Facilities and more than 100 Radio Tower sites within the 6 DPS regions. These are supported by Field Technicians within 5 Regions and Technicians at the Headquarters Facility. Technicians provide installation, troubleshooting and repair of communications equipment both fixed and in vehicles.

Technicians also provide support for the various in-car systems such as video, warning lights and Mobile-CAD (computer aided dispatch) hardware.

Working with diverse fixed equipment such as microwave transport, repeaters and base stations located throughout the State and with state-of-the-art mobile and portable radios, the RF/Technical Services provides unparalleled service to the Communications Service and DPS.

Public Safety Broadband Program
The Texas Public Safety Broadband Program (TxPSBP) was formed within the Texas Department of Public Safety in 2013 and charged with the planning and coordination of activities for the Texas portion of the Nationwide Public Safety Broadband Program (NPSBN). TxPSBP is funded through the State and Local Implementation Grant Program (SLIGP) administered by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA).

The TxPSBP is responsible for preparing Texas and its stakeholders for the successful implementation of the NPSBN through Outreach and Education, requirements gathering and data collection, development of Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) and revisions of the Statewide Communications Interoperability Plan (SCIP). The TxPSBP works closely with the Texas Interoperable Communications Coalition (TxICC) and has participated in LTE demos and exercises, SMLA negotiations and enhancing communications between FirstNet and Texas Local, Regional, Tribal, State representatives.

SWIC Office - Statewide Interoperability Coordinator
The SWIC office is the central coordination point for communications interoperability in Texas. The SWIC works with emergency responders across local, regional, Tribal, state and federal levels of government to implement a statewide vision for interoperability
